Autumnal Review: Design Healdsburg, Ceramics & More

We’ve been busy over the past few months as multiple large projects draw to a close and industry events have had their time in the sun. Our time in the studio has also started to bear ceramic fruit for our projects, so we’re sharing a sneak peak of some of our ceramic work in-situ for an upcoming project exposé later this year.

In-Situ: Ceramics

For certain projects, our vision for the interior design goes beyond finds and we personally feel the need to inhabit it. Bespoke ceramics have become a very tangible connection to the architecture & interiors we design, not just through aesthetics but through the physicality of working with the clay and producing finished pieces with our bare hands. Here's a sneak peak at a project we'll post later this year including some shots from a collection of abstract objects/vases we've been working on.

Inspirational: Design Healdsburg

In October we attended the Design Healdsburg event operated by the non-profit Design Bay Area. These events bring together creatives from many different backgrounds to create a truly unique atmosphere; fashion designers, cabinet makers, painters, chefs, you name it and they were there. We had a great time meeting new vendors and future collaborators while also introducing them to design partners we've worked with for years. This co-mingling of creative industries is invaluable to the thriving design ecosystem we have here in the Bay Area.

We attended a few thought provoking panel discussions over the weekend too; “Pour into Design”, “A Conversation with Architects who Shape the Wineries”, “Sustainability Trends” and “Designing with Nature”. Each of these created a framework in which the panelists and audience could engage with the topic at hand while the flow of conversation was directed by equally impressive moderators. You know a panel was a success when you walk away with multiple pages of sketches and notes!

We stopped by many of the Design Socials; informal meet-and-greet type events that fostered genuine connections with people/ industries we didn't expect going in. The beautifully appointed Little Saint and Flowers Vineyard made great backdrops for our conversations with graphic designers, photographers, landscape designers and appreciators of design in general. We look forward to running into everyone again next time!

In-Progress: Geyserville

Progress on our Geyserville project has been steady and watching all the predesigned pieces fall into place has been satisfying. We've been on-site a lot this month as the final pieces come together. Most recently we were on-site locating cabinetry pulls and pendant lights, as well as specifying the colored outlets and switches. This is a very hands-on project for us and so we've been inspired to create bespoke ceramics for this client also. More to see coming next year!
